Can anyone recommend software for converting video files (the one I have right now is .mov) to flash?  I need something easy to use without a lot of bells and whistles for posting video to a blog.

I just use the copy that comes with adobe flash. There’s a 30 day trial. Not sure what else is out there that wouldn’t be $500.

It’d help if you’d post what operating system you’re on.

Yes Flash Video Encoder is very easy to use with presets or you can set custom settings - and comes bunbdles with Flash (well at least in the CS3 package) although I’m assuming it’s going to be the most expensive of the picks if you have to buy it separate.

If you can afford it go for Flash Video encoder. It is worth it.

On mac I use ffmpegX with good results.

ffmpeg (on any platform) does a fine job generally but its kind of a pain in the neck to use.  If you are on a Mac VisualHub makes the process much easier.  And what I like is that it will do batch conversions so you can feed it a big list of files set some parameters, let it run overnight, and wake up to a finished set of encoded files.

I should have said I’m on a Mac - sorry about that, I realize it makes a big difference.

PXLated, I did such a search many times but got dizzying lists of things.  I just tried your free online solution, I can get down with something cheap and dirty, but it didn’t work.

This past weekend I downloaded a trial of something else (Sorenson Something) and spent way too much time trying to make it work. That’s why I was looking for the voice of experience.

I bought my Adobe Suite before Adobe bought Flash, so I don’t have it and am not too interested in shelling out for it right now.

VisualHub is basically a massively cleaned up GUI to the ffmpeg library (with a few other libraries thrown in too I think).  The guy came under quite a bit of fire at first for building what is essentially a GUI to Open Source software and then selling the GUI. 

But after struggling for years with the various “Free” incarnations of ffmpeg GUI’s I couldn’t care less really.  The Other GUI’s all throw up arcane error messages constantly and don’t make much sense to someone not steeped in digital video knowledge.  VisualHub works really well.  I’ve not once had something I couldn’t get into the format I needed.

Totally agree with Jamie. VisualHub just works. I know there are free tools but for a small sum I’ve saved myself hours of time and hassle.
