I’ve just installed Multiple Site Manager. I set up a 2nd site, duplicating the settings of my first and all looked fine. But now I can’t log back into the control panel. When I enter my username and password, the login screen simply refreshes.

(I’m using the correct password - in fact I tried using the “Forgot your password” link and the new password didn’t work. I’m NOT getting an “incorrect password” message)

Neither my super-admin nor the editor’s login details work.

Please help asap!

Changed something in the cookie settings? I’ve seen this behavior on a site where the admin changed the cookiedomain.

That’s not what I mean. When you log in to the system it sets a cookie. After logging in and so on it tries to read the cookie.
Now, if your cookie domain doesn’t match the actual url - it cannot read the cookie and it redirects you to the login page.

So - asking again. Did you make modifications to the cookiedomain / security settings or did you just copy you site to another url?

No - no modifications to the cookiedomain / security settings whatsoever.

Ok, try adding this to your config.php file:

$conf['admin_session_type'] = "s";

and let’s see if that lets you in. =)

Well, that lets you in, but if you want to be able to use cookies, we should troubleshoot further.  Up to you, but if you want to, then please head to Admin -> System Preferences -> Cookie Preferences and post what you have in those fields. =)

The three Cookie Settings fields are all blank.

In Security and Session Preferences, CP Session Type is Session ID only.
User Session Type is Cookies only.

Yes, we set the session type to sessions only. =)

Can you try setting the cookie domain? Don’t forget the leading prefix.  Then change the session type to cookies only or cookies and sessions. You’ll want to remove that line from config.php as well, though we’ll use it to get you back in if needed. =)
