I went to Borders today with one of my business partners, the graphic design guy, to look for industry periodicals. He found a wealth of stuff for design, some even aimed at design for the web. But I couldn’t find anything for me. I’m sure it exists somewhere, but I doubt it’s popular enough for Borders to carry it: I’m looking for a periodical resource of some kind for a small web design company that covers entrepreneurship, marketing techniques, philosophies of web design and layout, etc. Something like the equivalent to what ‘A List Apart’ is for the development/coding world. (I also read that one, it’s great!)

I just need some reading that’s geared more towards the business/marketing/philosophical side of what I’m doing. Suggestions?

Also, any other suggestions for a new upstart web group, feel free!

You’ve found ALA but there are lots of online resources worth checking out, many of them also have book reviews so you might find some inspiration there…

I just got my very first issue of this trade magazine, free btw:
    http://www.websitemagazine.com/
I skimmed it on my lunch hour and already passed it off to my boss, it had a couple of interesting articles.
Seemed heavy on paid search, pay per click, topics etc.
Maybe that was just this issue, for free I highly suggest it though, it wasn’t program and code resources heavy more towards marketing.

One interesting idea in an article was creating sub-domains that are regionalized versions:
uk.mydomain.com, us.mydomain.com, fr.mydomain.com ... you get the idea, of course some of these would really require having translations.

OK, this is from the REALLY old days, but way back when it really was pretty good.
