    1. Why does every template group have an index regardless of whether it has content?

    2. Can you combine already existing templates into a template group? I’ve created like 6 CSS pages, and probably will create a few more. If I were to start over, I’d for sure have created a template group called “clj_css.”

    3. If I am doing “quicksave” as I go along and my browser crashes, can I get to the post I was working on?

    1.  So that it has something to serve up, much like best practice calls for an index.html in any directory so that you don’t get a directory listing.

    2.  You can create a new template based off an existing template (duplicating it) - you would then want to delete the old one. There is not currently a way to move templates between groups, though you could put in a feature request for that.

    3.  Depends at what point your browser crashes and if the Quick Save went through. Do you see the post in your Edit screen?

    1. Was just curious. I have my directories set not to return a directory listing, but that answer makes sense.

    2. Yeah, figured as much. WIll probably do this, but then will need to update the templates as well. Not a big deal, just an organizational preference.

    3. No it wasn’t. Generally I work offline in a text editor, then post anyway, but it was gone.

If it’s not in the edit screen, then it is, unfortunately, gone. I’ve been bitten by this by too many web forms to count (all non-EE, before I’d even heard of ExpressionEngine!) so tend to write anything long in a text editor where cmd S saves it instantly.  I do that about every 15 seconds, so… =)

I prefer external editing too, you may want to check out my module to streamline import/export of external templates. After you are happy with the template file on the server you can mass import them and have the version added to the version history in EE.
