I have been searching this site and searching Google to see if I can use Expression Engine with Simple Commerce the to create a ecommerce site that has many of the features found in http://www.magentocommerce.com . Mainly, I would like to create a way for customers to review products and rate products. I thought I found a sample web site here, but I cannot find it now.

I look forward to hearing a response!!!!!!

    Hi Tim,

Hmm your post starts out about one thing and then goes into another so I will do my best to address matters where I can.
The Simple Commerce Module in EE is really all that, quite simple 😉 It can be pushed to do quite a bit more if you need it to by creative thinking and some liberal use of plugins that you can create yourself but it will never really be a full blown commerce suite.

As to reviewing products then the reviews could be handled quite easily with either custom fields or the commenting system depending on who exactly is writing the reviews - your customers or yourself.

As to rating products then there is a very good module available from Solspace called Rating 😉

There are a couple more ways of doing ratings including a couple of modules linked to on these forums and a quick search should enable you to find them easily enough.

I would just warn again though that the Simple Commerce Module really is all that, quite simple and if you are looking for a full blown e-commerce system then you are probably better off going with something like Magento or one of the other commerce products out there as at the moment trying to get the full set of features needed for e-commerce within EE would take a lot of customisation.

    Hope some of that helps?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to respond!!!!!!!

Do you think that in the future when Magento is established and someone creates a bridge to link it with EE. That that would be a good CMS and ecommerce solution?

I think that the best thing will be when the full blown EE commerce module comes out. As of yet there is no date as to when that will be though as the developers do not give dates to when items will be coming out but I would guess that if it works in the same way as the rest of EE does then it should hopefully blow the socks off anything else that exists!

    Best wishes,

[Naughty Disclaimer] - Any of the EE admins reading this you could actually give a date for items you know! All you would have to do is create them in their entirety and then announce that tomorrow you will be releasing it. Easy peasy really!! 😉

Runs off to hide from texted abuse I’m about to receive!! 😉

    Hi Tim,

No problem. Any time. There may be a few other people that might chime in on this one though but I do think that you would need to do some quite heavy customisation in order to get a full blown site like Magento.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
