Yup I did this ages ago on a site and very very very very quickly took it off again as it killed the server from all the large sized images on the page.

A neat trick but definitely one that I think isn’t really needed any more and definitely one to avoid. That’s my personal take on it anyway as I have first hand stupidity-experience from having done it!! 😊

    Best wishes,

Ya, I suppose if you make your images soo large they kill your server, I’d avoid it too. I’d seen it done in other ways but not with “em” sizing before.

Why do you say “isn’t really needed anymore”?
Is there some other solution to this same issue…text resizes, images don’t?

When you say text resizes images don’t I think you mean images do?

Admittedly I have never seen any other solution to this other than of course Flash but I really don’t see it as being needed. If you lay out a site on a computer then you are always going to be working at low resolution on browsers. Yes people can increase the font size and yes then the differential between the original text/image and the new text to image is going to be different but I don’t really think that is too much of an issue is it?

If I want to offer larger images then I just link to them using Lightbox. This way I don’t kill the server and people can get to see them larger if they want. I know it’s not quite the same thing but a lot safer in my eyes!! 😊 Imagine 100 of these on a page! 😊

    Best wishes,

Ya. It would take a special layout/design before I’d ever use it. And I’d certainly not use it on a page with 100 images 😊
