We host a number of websites, a corporate site, product site and a contest site. We are considering installing the multiple site manager so each of these properties can have their own identity yet share a common database. We also want to implement a ‘staging’ site where production and testing can happen behind the scenes on a non-public url. Can template groups be moved from one domain to another - ie from the staging site to a public site by changing the properties of the group?

    Hi, Salandra—

No, there is no built-in way to move templates from one existing Site to another - that can only currently be done during the creation of a new Site.  This would need direct database manipulation to occur.

You can use embeds and the like to pull templates across Sites, though, which may be another option.

I would probably keep the staging site as a separate installation from the live site, though.

So Lisa, the ‘Duplicate Existing Template Group’ does not work across the multi-site manager?

I was hoping we could have http://www.ourcompanyname.com (public) and http://www.ourcontest.com (public) plus a staging site that was only an IP or called staging.ourcompanyname.com (private and offline - visable to logged in Super-admins only). This isn’t possible?

You know what - you’re right, s.  I just tested this, duplicating a new template group does work across Sites.  Sorry about that. =)
