I need a shopping cart that can process all the major credit cards, so the EE simple commerce module is not going to work for me.  Can anyone recommend a shopping cart, either open source or pay, that works well?

Also, do third party shopping carts usually have the front end catagorization/database to store and sort the products for sale, or would it be better to create that in EE?

    Thanks

I have two suggestions - Avactis & http://www.ecommercetemplates. I was pushing ecommercetemplates alot, but I recently decided to use avactis. I really like avactis. I used the first version a while back and it was limited. The new version 1.8.1 is really nice. Also it very easy to customize. Remembers me “somewhat” on EE. Uses a easy to understand tagging structure.

Of course, we all hope EE 2.0 will have a Pro commerce module or at least one for sale separately.

Never used it myself and it may not be even close to what you need, but this looks good: http://www.magentocommerce.com/

    Fyi…

I just ran across another new cart that looks interesting - http://www.prestashop.com/index.php.

Also, there site is built using EE.

Everything I’ve read points to Magento (http://www.magentocommerce.com) to being the new crowd favorite, over OSCommerce and ZenCart. Haven’t used any of them myself, but when I considered this a while back, I too was leaning towards Magento.

I recommend CS-Cart for any serious e-commerce. It is basically a polished version of osCom or zen cart. It has a built in CMS, a really good Country/State feature, lot’s of addons and it can handle a load. For the price it has a lot of features and their support is OK, although they are in Russia, so I hope your a night owl like me.

I am excited about some of the new web 2.0 based carts that are coming available but most of them do not have the features I need or I are still in beta. I will just wait until EE comes out with their e-commerce module before I switch.

Here is our latest cs-cart release.

    Hope this helps

    Mike
