URL Segmenting and Media Temple

I just bought my copy of EE commercial last night and I’m stoked to get my joomla site moved over, but I’ve run into the path_info issue on Midphase shared linux server so I’m giving it a go with my MT account since I know others have gotten it to work there.  Media temple does have path_info support.  This is what it says in my phpinfo file:  PATH_INFO   /gs-bin/phpinfo.php4
    I’m using the gridserver.

I’m developing the site on a spare domain:

    http://bestfiltering.com/

Initially, the index page would show up, but other pages like http://bestfiltering.com/index.php/site/C1  would say “no input file selected.  I tried to run your wizard.php and it also said “no input file selected”.  I figured it was a path_info problem but found out that MT does support path_info.

During my few hours of trying to figure this out, I tried turning on/off the cgi.fix_pathinfo variable in php.ini.  I changed it back 1 after noticing it didn’t effect anything.  Well I did something wrong because now http://bestfiltering.com doesn’t return anything, but I can still get to the control panel.  cgi.fix_pathinfo is now enabled.  I just tried the wizard.php again and it works (?) and says everything is supported.

Any tips on how I can get this to work?  If I try to view a template in EE, it gives me a link to the template, which then returns nothing rather than displaying the web page like it normally does.

Hi, Jon. Welcome to the EE forums.

I have several domains running on my GS account.

First things first. MT allows you to use either PHP5 or PHP4. Which are you using?

On my PHP5 sites, I have in my .htaccess file:

    AddHandler php5-script .php
    Options +FollowSymLinks

    Do you have something similar?

I’m using PHP4.  Is that your global .htaccess or in each domain?  My global just says:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^domains/[^\/]+/html/webstats[/]?$  https://beta-ac.mediatemple.net/services/manage/grid/reports/urchin/165172/urchin.cgi [R]

I don’t have one in this particular domain folder.  Should I make one and put the Options +FollowSymLinks?  Or maybe I should switch this domain to php5 and put your .htaccess code in there.

    My PHP4 domains have:

    AddHandler php4-script .php

I have an .htaccess for each domain.

Try the AddHandler for php4 first, and see if that helps.

i tried the addhandler and it didn’t work, also tried with followsymlinks in every possible way.

    I also created a new template: http://bestfiltering.com/index.php/sophos-store/index/

Right now it returns “no input file selected” but with the query string it doesn’t work.  On the fresh install today, it would say no input file selected but query strings worked.

I re-installed and I’m back to square one, which is good.  The default site shows, but url segmenting isn’t working.  I tried the .htaccess changes and those don’t work either.

jonsnetwork.. I suspect that not all GS installs are equal. My sites don’t need to force query strings.

In your case, it appears you do.

You might need to contact MT’s support staff to see if you can do anything else. Otherwise, you’ll need to use .htaccess to swallow up the ? and while you’re at it, index.php as well.

were any of your sites shared servers that migrated to gridservers?  I don’t want to mess with removing index.php since I’m an EE newbie and that isn’t supported officially is it?  I don’t have a clue what to tell MT since your wizard says they support URL segmenting but I’ll give it a shot.

No, they weren’t. I have one account on MT using GS.

would it be asking to much to get a copy of your php.ini?  That would probably be the only place my gs would differ from yours with regards to running EE right?

I have never made any changes to the php.ini file for the site. It’s getting late here, and I’m an early morning person. I’ll be back then.

don’t worry about it.  Problem solved.  They told me that when they newly provision a gs site they put a php.ini.sample on the server.  I for some reason had another php.ini that came from somewhere (I have no idea where).  I just renamed that file so MT’s default php settings would work and now everything is fine.  Thanks for your help.
