Anyone using the Favorites Module from Solspace?

I’m thinking about trying it out to allow members to save their favorite designs from the CSS gallery on my site: NiceStylesheet.

So, someone would sign up for an account. Find a design they like, favorite it, and then have that design show up in a listing of their favorite designs so they can keep track of them all in once place.

If you’ve used the favorite module before, how difficult would this be?

It’s pretty simple to set-up. We’ve used it to create a ‘book bag’ for a site that generates a slew of publications and other type of content. It’s available to members only, and they see a +Book link, that then links to the favorites module.  I have plans to try to cross link this with, the tags module (also from Solspace), so members can click on keywords t limit the view of their favorites (haven’t doe it yet, but hopefully it should be feasible).

I see. That sounds about like what I want to do.

So, essentially, I’ll just set up a member template that will display the favorites, make it available only to members, then have a “+ favorite” link or something on the weblog entry that will allow logged in members to save it to their personal favorites page?

This may become more clear once I actually start digging through code, but how do you limit each person’s favorite page so only the logged in user can see it? I don’t want one member being able to view another members favorites page. Does that just happen automatically behind the scenes? I’m thinking about using the User Module for the member stuff by the way.

I believe it happens automatically, which is why the users must be members. But its been awhile since I read the Solspace docs.

I am not sure either but Solspace has forums which you can post to.

Yeah, thanks for the reminder John. I’ll give that a try once I actually try to start implementing it. I always forget about their forums as I’ve never received much help when posting there, but it’s definitely worth a shot. 😉

They should be better now.  They have a dedicated support person there now.  Also keep in mind that as with the EE community the free stuff does not get as much attention as the paid stuff (community vs pro support.)

I’m about to buy the Favorites plugin. I want to create some sort of ‘iusethis.com’ for sporting gear.

I want my members to be able to create a list of sporting gear they are using and share that list with other members.

I see that NiceStylesheet is not using the functionality yet. What went wrong? Why didn’t you implement it?
