My client needs to disable and hide the entire /member directory from any browser. I already installed the robots.txt file for the caching issue, but when I added a syntax for the /member directory to direct all traffic to the homepage, it disabled the new member registration altogether.

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To fix this, you can go here in your control panel:

Admin › Members and Groups › Member Groups › Edit Member Group › Guest

and choose “Member Account Privileges”, and choose “no” for can view public profiles. You can also use member conditionals to show the link to the member list to only those that are logged in.

I’ve also lowercased your title, please don’t use all caps - it indicates screaming, which is unnecessary. =)

You could also use the .htaccess to direct all /member traffic to your homepage.

By default no one should enter these pages anyway as you never link to them.

But people who know EE and simply try will be disappointed 😊
