Downgrade?

In an effort to resolve my still as yet unresolved issues with my RSS and Atom feeds not updating in Google Reader, I attempted to downgrade my installation to 1.5.2 because that was the last version in which everything was working right.

    Oh boy ...

That did not go well at all. It choked on the database changes, I had to drop several tables so that the update file could complete the database changes. Now, the Control Panel appears funky ... I found the KB article about moving the cp_themes folder into the system directory, but now my masked control panel has no styling at all, I have to use the URL with the system directory in it. I am not getting any comment notification emails now ... and my server techs have disabled my htaccess file as part of the troubleshooting process (a useless waste of time ... and I am getting spam-bombed)!

Where did I go wrong? Can I just upgrade to 1.6.1 again using the normal procedures?

I am literally at my wit’s end with all these issues, and there seems to be no solution!

    Help!

Downgrading a current db isn’t something I’d want to try.  The only way to reasonably do it would be if you had a copy of the old db and a copy of the old files.  Then- it would be easy enough.  Anything else, I wouldn’t attempt.

Do you have a clean copy of your 1.6 (or whatever) database?  The best thing to do- clear everything out of the db- keep backups- install the 1.6 db.  Then do an upgrade to 1.6.1.  Note- I’m guessing a bit on what version you were on.  But- as long as you have one clean db of whatever version, you should be able to upgrade that to the current and get the db, files and themes all synced back up.

    Make sense?
