Editors note: This is the first entry in what we hope will be a semi-regular feature on the EE Blog. Case studies are not meant to be “best practices” or “tutorials” but rather a real world look at developing an EE site under the pressures and constraints of a “client’s budgetary and design needs” as Reese so eloquently put it. Hopefully the case studies will be a way to learn from others what worked, what didn’t, and to share thoughts in a constructive manner.

If you’d like to write a case study for the EE blog, please email Leslie with a paragraph description of the project and what you’d like to highlight about its development.

Wow this is a great idea!

I’ll be writing one up soon then for the healthcare site I am working on.

These types of write-ups are so insightful to providing solutions with EE.
Imagine the newbie (me) finding this wonderful and mysterious box of gizmos (EE) and not knowing quite how to make it all work without some guidance, and there is getting to be more of that all the time.
    Thanks and thank you Reese.

Great writeup!  Is anyone aware of a better way to go about the multiple related entries issue?  I feel like this approach may be too confusing for the average user.

small bug. when you click on the last link (the big picture) in safari you have no scrollbars. safari 3 shows a scaled version which you can click, but you can’t scroll to see all the fields. (due to popup settings methinks).

ontopic. Often and time and/or budget and project related issues won’t allow you to dive deeper into the matter and you often don’t have time to make stand-alone entry forms. imnsho the presented setup in the blog is horrible. i would have opted for a related table of images/mediafiles with caption and all. even a mixed media table/weblog with maybe a field for mediatype and connect each to the main entry. On the the template look up related or reverse-related entries and show them accordingly. So in short make a basic entry with text/body and image and relate as many media entries as you want to that entry.

update: for multiple images from a gallery category i use this solution:http://www.jambor-ee.com/blog/entry/associating-multiple-gallery-images-to-an-entry/ . The same can be done for a related weblog with multiple entries and i think it rather fits nicely with this posted blog-entry.

Erm is it just me or not but if I go to that link (http://ellislab.com/blog/entry/case_study_cobalt_solutions/) in the first post I get a blank blog entry?

I also don’t see an entry on the blog page either?. I tried going through all the blog categories too to see if I was missing it but I really can’t find it anywhere.

Am I doing something stupid here?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Please ignore me. Dippy moment. Nothing to see here 😉

Just noticed that this post is from 2007. Sorry about that. Pretty sure I missed the post in 2007 though too 😊
