    EE Forum Crew,

    Using: EE 1.6.0
    Server: Linux
    EE Expertise: Limited 😖

I have a 100+ mp3s [note the attached image] I want to import/reference in Expression Engine’s FileManager.  Before we got Expression Engine, the mp3 files were uploaded manually via FTP.  I’m finding that php is interestingly FASTER than FTP!

I’m setting up my {custom fields} right now and I want, from now on, to download the mp3s onto the server via the EE php import functionality.  I don’t want the user to require FTP access in order to update the podcast.  On a related note, does EE document the file-size and mime-type when it imports via the FileManager?  If so, how would this information be imported as well?

    Summary:
    >> Files already on server
    >> Need to “import/reference” in EE FileManager
    >> A Script / Forum Link on how others have done this

Thanks in advance to the forum crew!

Kevin, what file manager do you mean? The default file upload simply places folders into your file upload directory; they are not stored in the database.

    Lisa,

I’m a bit clueless, I guess.  I simply created the existing mp3 folder as an upload location, and EE populated the 100+ files.

I was going to use the old Extract Url Plus or the latest, Extract URL Plus 2 plugin to extract the URL information in a podcast feed, and I thought that EE, when it imported via the file upload page, would gather information about the file.

It turns out, the plugin uses server-based php to populate information, and not from the EE database. I went into the mySQL database and saw no tables, so I’m in the clear now! So, I guess my “problem” has been solved!  It was so easy ....

    Thanks for the quick response!

You mean in the “View files”? yes, it reads the files from those in the directory; none of that area is database driven.

I’m glad you got it resolved. =)
