Hey everyone,
I really have no idea where to get information on this, so I’ll ask you guys.
I’m about to start the process of writing a grant for a new Mac computer lab. One of the deans here at the university suggested to not even replace the now outdated Mac lab with computers, but to implement a “mega server”, enabling students to access the lab from anywhere on their personal computer. There would be no actual “lab space” with computers in it. Students would be given the option of either a pre-approved Mac or PC package when they enter college. (I’d love to make it an all-Mac package, but some folks don’t yet know better. 😝 ) This would be covered included in tuition/fin. aid.
All software needed for the specific degree program would be “served” from the server, specifically for this type of use. Students would purchase a software license key (just as they would a textbook), and then gain access to the application upon entering the key.
Anywho… Does anyone know where I can get more info on this? Are any of you familiar with such a set up? I’ve heard, also from the dean, that this is where computer labs in institutions are slowly moving to. I’ve tried searching for something like this, but have been unsuccessful.
... just to relate it to EE… I wonder if this couild somehow be tied into the EE CMS?
Thanks in advance for any info!
