I’m trying out embedding YouTube videos and have come across a problem with IE6 [suprise, suprise]

The videos work fine in FF, IE7 and Opera9

However in IE6 on my main machine [WinXP], I dont even see the first frame. There is space reserved for the clip. On moving the mouse over the space I see a faint rectangle outline, and maybe just a tooltip saying ‘click to activate and use this control’. I click several times and nothing happens.

any ideas? is this a general problem, or just a setting on my PC?

[i’ve used several methods starting with the code provided by Youtube, and moving on to more standards compliant versions]

I should also say that I get a similar prob with Opera 8.5 on this machine.

As YouTube uses the Adobe Flash Browser Plugin to display video, have you checked that Flash is installed and working properly on your IE6 box? You can check it at the Flash Test Page here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/.

    thanks for that.

Initially my IE6box did not have the plugin installed!  However even after installing it, I still get the same sad effect :-(

Here is a really good article I found on how to embed multi-media in a standards compliant manner: “Bye Bye Embed”.

    Good Luck!
