Custom variables at the weblog container level?

Thanks to Lisa for her series, esp. yesterday’s Dissecting the Default Templates: Custom Weblog Fields.
EE customization capabilities are quite well thought out!
    I have a question though.
I know we can establish global variables, custom member profile variables (to add info for each member) and custom weblog variables (to add variables to be set on each weblog entry).
My question is: Is there the capability to create variables for a weblog “container”(exp_weblogs)?

For example: There may be multiple customer events occurring at the same time, we’ll call them event A and event B. I have weblogs A and B established for select attendees to blog on these events. For eventA’s blog “home” page, I want to include info about eventA which is essentially static, with links to the events registration site, background about the event’s purpose and such. Same thing for eventB - but it will have its own set of info with separate event registration and background info totally separate from eventA. I need this info at the eventA or eventB blog level, but it does not need to be carried on an entry (exp_weblog_data) since it may vary from weblog to weblog but doesn’t vary by entry. Hope this makes sense.

We initially did this by creating separate template groups for each event and “hardcoding” the static info which I suspect was quite “the hard way” of doing this and I’d love to learn “a better way”.

If this isn’t native, please feel free to relocate to the Feature Requests.

    Thank you!

Hrm, you could create a weblog to specifically handle metadata for each weblog; then use relationships to pull in that metadata.

Or… perhaps you could use categories?  category custom fields just scream at me as a way to handle this cleanly….

Ok - I set up my category group for my event type and added my custom category fields but I’m still missing the part to associate them to a specific weblog. I see how I can associate a category with a weblog entry but not the higher level weblog. Probably just something I’m overlooking.
Looking forward to the upcoming discussion on categories… maybe my lightbulb moment on this topic will occur with that!
