My site envindia.com was loading very slowly. I emailed the service provider Bizland.com .

    In response they wrote” Your
script is located in the path XXXX/index.php seems to be be very old
version and its overloading the CGI and mysql servers. Please check the
    script and upgrade it.

Now I find that when I go to my site it shows the following:

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

I think i am running Exp. engine 5.1 or 5.2. What is the way to upgrade the index.php file and restore the site. I a content developer, not a programmer, so please bear with me.

    Thanks
    CK

Well, there’s no version 5.  You could be on 1.5 (1.5.1, or 1.5.2 from the sounds of it) - I don’t know that I’d classify those as “very old versions”, though they are out of date.

In any case, here are the version update instructions.  That error you mentioned is a server error, not delivered by ExpressionEngine, so you’ll need to check with your host about why it’s popping up.  Generally speaking, though, I’d recommend looking to see if there is any incoming spam, usually in the form of referrers when speed is involved.  Your host should have a stats package that can help identify that.

    Thanks a lot,

It should be 1.5.1 or 1.5.2 , my bad. I will try to update to the latest tonight when I get some time. I have also opened another ticket with my provider.

I am able to go to Non Exp. engine page on my server ( check http://www.envindia.com/membership.htm ) but not to http://www.envindia.com which forwards to http://www.envindia.com/nandck/index.php .  So my hunch is that it is to do something with a EE file. I also checked the stats.. There has not been any unusual activity in my referrers this month which may seem like spam.

    Thanks

It may have something to do with the redirect, or PHP in general.  But it is not an EE generated error - the error is coming from the server before it ever gets to ExpressionEngine. =)
