    Hello,

I work on an EE site over ftp, so I’m always working with the live copy.

I just exported about 10 template groups to my machine.

Every template had lots of code in it.

After exporting the templates, i noticed that most of them didnt have any code in them at all. Why is that?

The only ones that had code in them were the ones that I edited via the EE template control panel. None of the ones i worked on in dreamweaver, through the ftp, were exported.

I’ve pretty much lost 75% of my work. Kinda sucks, but I can redue it. I figured that export templates ment just that, all my templates, and considering I only have 1 copy of each template, that it wouldn’t matter if i worked on the template directly on the server via dreamweaver, or directly on it via the EE control panel.

Actually,t he stuff it saved is old code, so I’ve really lost all my recent stuff too. Well that sucks. I didn’t think “export” templates ment “only export templates that have been edited via EE control panel”. I figured since i am workign directly with the template via dreamweaver, it would be backing up same file.

Export templates simply allows you to export the templates stored in the database.  Since you are already saving them as text files - they’re not in the database.  Only the last changes that you made and hit “submit” for in the control panel will be in the database, and that is what is exported.

However, you were already editing in Dreamweaver, thusly saving them as files - so they’re not lost, they’re just in the file-system.  As a note, file revisions only work on templates worked on in the database as well, not via FTP.
