I’m considering the wiki module as the basis for a new project and have some questions. Apologies, if these are “doh” questions but I’m struggling to understand a few concepts.

    1. Categorizing Content
When you create an article you categorize it with a tag like this [[Category:category name]].

These seems like it would create havoc - how does an author know if the category already exists so they put it in the right category?

It seems like you would need a list of categories in front of you to select from or you would end up with 5 different versions of a category.

    2. Mixing Wiki and Weblog Content.
Is it possible to display Wiki articles and Weblog entries in a single template?

Say you have a bunch of weblog entries in Category X and a Bunch of Wiki articles in the same category.

If a user is viewing an wiki article in Category X could you list all the weblog entries in that same category?

    1)  I always thought this too, especially on larger wikis.  You can keep the category list page open; and you should have a moderator or two to make things stay clean and organized.  You may be able to custom code some form of drop-down or click to choose category.  But essentially, right now, you are correct in how it works, and the pitfalls; wiki in general can be a bit more difficult organizationally because they are allowing free organization by multiple people.

    2)  Sure, depending what you want to do, you may need to use some query module loving or a plugin.  If you wanted to have a bunch of entries all shown together as they share the same category, then you might want to look at a plugin to do that type of comparison.  So while there isn’t a current solution one could be built.  You could base it off of URLs as well, but the wiki uses Category:category title in the URL, so you’d need some way to strip the Category: portion, and also make sure that the rest matches.

So yes, 2 is possible, but would take some thinking through and custom development. You can have a look at our development docs too. =)
