I am using Googles Webmaster tools at the moment and it suggests creating a sitemap using their “Site Map Generator”. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with my host.

Google also suggests using my RSS feed, but I think because of the url structure Expression Engine uses - Google rejects this as not useable when I submit it.

So I wondered if anybody could suggest the best way to create a site map.

I’m going to shift this one over to ‘How to’ as it’s not quite an ‘out of the box’ thing.  But, it’s not hard- there are a couple of good wiki entries on creating google site maps- see here and here.

Couple of points I could use some guidance on:

    1. This Wiki entry http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Google_Sitemaps_continued/ suggests I need to use a work around to get my sitemap verified. I submitted my sitemap to Google without this and it seemed to work fine and has been verified ok. Am I missing something by not implementing this work around.

    2. Now that I have submitted my sitemap to Google and put a link to the sitemap file on the site, does this get crawled automatically along with the rest of the site. Google suggests setting up a recurring script or http request. Do have to do this for the sitemap outlined in the EE Wiki entry?

Any help would be greatly appreciated…

    check out the Sitemap Module:

    http://www.putyourlightson.net/index.php/projects/sitemap

it automatically generates an xml sitemap of your site based on your configurations and notifies google and several other search engines when your site content changes
