I’m installing EE on a clients host that has PHP running as CGI. I don’t really know what that means, although I have seen it mentioned before. Are there any issues to installing/running EE in such an environment? What exactly does running PHP as CGI do?

I just Googled “running php as cgi” and came up with a bunch of hits including http://www.modwest.com/help/kb5-202.html

I have just switched to a host running PHP as CGI and not had any problems running EE.

I had a cron job to back-up the database every night that wouldn’t work because it used some PHP that is not allowed, but I found another script that does work.

I understand that more and more hosts are switching to running PHP as CGI as it is more secure.
