Am I correct in assuming that expressionengine.com is made in EE? If so how do you create/ manage the main menu, with pulldowns. I hope this is not hardcoded? I’m looking to use EE for a corporte site and am looking for the best way to create the navigation! Thanks in advance.

Yes, obviously expressionengine.com runs off EE. There are various approaches to do a menu, mostly involving categories. There are some plugins for that purpose, too.

I figured the categories approach out for myself, but would like to be able to use categories for other functionality. I did not find any plugins for this; I would be grateful if you could point me to them? Thanks!

Note that you can assign multiple category groups to a single ‘weblog’, so if you use one set for navigation, you can still have another set for other purposes.  The categories tag is the native tag for handling category display and creation of navigation links- note the category_group parameter- it allows you to display a specific ‘group’ of categories, thus if you have more than one cat group assigned to the weblog, you can show just the group(s) you want in your navigation.

As to the plugins- just depends on what you want to do which ones you might investigate.  I’d start with the native tag, see how it lacks with regard to what you want to do.  Then maybe post to ‘How to’ if you need it to do something specific and it doesn’t.

    Make sense?

I completely overlooked the fact that I could assign more than one category to a weblog! Indeed makes perfect sense this way, thanks!
