I recently noticed this article in the latest print issue of Website Magazine. It mentions Expression Engine in the section on Weblogs.

I’ve used MT before (a long time ago), haven’t really used any of the other systems, and I’m certainly not an expert on EE, but I was fairly disappointed with the comparison and felt like the authors really didn’t know much about EE at all. First, why would they put it in the Weblogs section instead of the CMS section?

And to say that it has the least features of any of the blogging systems and is tied for being the least scalable just seems ignorant to me. But who knows, maybe I’m the ignorant one?

I’m pretty sure they’re comparing the free version, not the paid one. Which would make a really big difference.

EDIT: yeah thats exactly what they’re doing:

The version tested here was pMachine (free and deployed by thousands of websites frequently through Fantastico)

    It’s thoroughly inaccurate:

. The version tested here was pMachine (free and deployed by thousands of websites frequently through Fantastico) which has been absorbed by ellislabs and now known as expression engine.

It sounds like there is a host still offering pmPro, and the reviewers assumed it was the same product as EE.

    Yes, thoroughly researched that one.

    Leslie:

I don’t know what EllisLab typically does in this type of situation, but I think I would complain (and maybe that would result in some good press if they’d do a writeup on the real EE). Website Magazine is fairly new (I think), but they were passing out free copies at the latest Internet Retailer show (and I suspect they are doing the same at other major trade shows) and it’s a free subscription.

I just hate to see EE get a bad rep when they are actually reviewing, as Mike points out, an old product.

You know, it’s funny. I don’t know why, but i took that article as insulting to me and I have nothing to do with Ellis Labs or EE other than use it.

I guess when you really believe in a product you become somewhat vetted in your own mind.

    JT - exactly.

I posted a comment to hopefully clue them in to their mistake.
