I am curious if its possible for when a user goes to create a post for a particular catagory if its possible instead of just having Title/Message to have other specialised fields. Such as inputing family history information

    Name:
    Parents Name:
    Grandparent 1:
    Grandparent 1:
    Their Parents etc..

all as fields that all ready exist and have the values of those be specifically styled in certain way in the post? Is the capability there out of the box or possible with existing plugins?

Yes, this is available out of the box.  They’re called “custom fields” and you can read about them in the docs here for input and here for output.  There are also custom category fields should you need specialized information about categories.

Alternatively, you could use relationships for a family tree, could be fairly interesting.  Read creating relationships between entries and reverse relationships. =)

Thank you very much for the swift reply. I do have one more question once I create the custom fields for a particular category/section will those fields be retained every time a new post is being written for that specific category/section or will they have to be persistently re-added through some advanced options like in other CMSs(such as textpattern/wp).

Yes, the way it works is you create a custom field group, and in that field group you create the custom fields. You then assign the custom field group to a particular weblog.  One field group can belong to many weblogs, but a weblog can only have one field group.  Those fields are there until you remove them yourself. =)

I would also recommend trying it before you buy, so you have a real idea how it works.  Try before you buy =)
