Hey there,
I’ve been using EE for my own blog for quite some time, but I’ve always felt kinda funny about asking people to register for it. I know that Google has their own blog services (Blogger/Blogspot), but I was wondering if EE users or EE staffers had considered offering an option for EE sites to use Google accounts instead of or in addition to EE member accounts.
The core benefit is that undoubtedly millions of people already have Google accounts, so they’d be able to jump right in and post on EE blogs in an authenticated manner without having to separately sign up for each EE site. Sort of like TypeKey, but even less of a barrier to entry 😊
What’s more, Google offers a special (free) API in this situation:
“Account Authentication Proxy for Web-Based Applications”
So, for my questions:
- Fellow EE users, would you find this to be useful/valuable/interesting?
- EE admins, is this something you’d be interested in integrating into EE or an EE module/plugin/etc.?
[Disclaimer: I work for Google, but have nothing to do with Google accounts]
