I took a look a the documentation, but I wasn’t clear on the actual credit card processing workflow. When you checkout, or view your cart, does it just take you to the paypal site (leaving your site)? or does paypal do the processing without going to a paypal url?

Yes, it opens a secondary window with all the PayPal stuff. To fully integrate it in your site, you need PayPal Pro (I think), and that costs you (and is not supported by the SCM yet.)
