Anyone use EE for a big site and have a sandbox or dev site that they can make changes to before sending it out (eg. a new feature or design) to the main site? Is it easy to do? What can EE do to help me out?
Thanks.

There is no automatic feature/way to do it like some systems where you have dev/staging/live environments.
What’s involved totally depends on the type of site and what exactly you are doing in the dev environment. If you have a news or blog type site where the content is constantly changing it will be difficult to keep the databases in sync. If you are just creating new tempaltes with new features, it’s easier as then you can just go transfer the new templates to the live site.
Personally, I just work on the live server once the initial development is done.
There are several threads about using a dev environment. I’d try searching for “dev server” local development”, etc.

I’ve been searching for a similar solution since last year, but no luck.
I am investigating scripting for phpMyAdmin to see if that would help.
Any thoughts? Anyone? Buehler?
