Add an "AJAX" field to the Control Panel

Hi there, considering buying but I have one question that I’m not really sure how to test out on the hosted account.

I’ll be using EE as a full blown CMS, and in doing so will have multiple weblogs of relationship joined data. Some of these weblogs will grow large, quickly and I’m worried that a simple drop-down will be a poor interface for setting up relations.

I’m thinking a “Google Suggestion” type interface, where the first few letters filter the available, relevant entries would be much better in the long-run. Technically I know how to build such an addition, but is it possible to “theme” a replacement element into the page? Are there any known issues with placing AJAX elements or making XML requests from the Control Panel that I should be aware of?

Also is it possible to do all this in a way that could be distributed to other users?

There are no known issues, at least that I know of.  We have an Edit Tab Ajax extension that is first party, and there’s a third-party control panel livesearch extension.  That is how you would add this, in fact, would be via an extension that works on the Publish page.

Also, the third party module Tag, version 2, uses Ajax to suggest tags (though it is onclick rather than onkeypress).  And yes, an extension is easily distributable. =)

Awesome. I’ll look up those example just to verify they are what I’m thinking.

The two I mentioned aren’t for the publish page, but absolutely. You can find teh edit tab ajax in our add-on library, but the livesearch is one of Mark Huot’s, I believe it is listed here, but if not, it is in our Extensions forum.
