I’ve messed around with this template so much I am lost.
Right now on the index page it shows
continue reading “{title}”
but that just links to
example.com/comments/1/
What is it supposed to be?

You’re using entry_id_path, which gives you a numerical path.
URL_Title_Path is what you can use instead.
