Sorry if this seems a silly question…..but…

There seems to be a whole lot of talk regarding the SAEF (Standalone Entry Form’s) however I seem to be missing a bit of background info or workflow information on how people are using this.

I’ve done my searching and found this page - http://expressionengine.com/docs/modules/weblog/entry_form.html and I’ve also found Solspaces helpful plugin:

    http://solspace.com/software/detail/form_helper/c/plugins/

In terms of the workflow how do people use the SAEF?

As I currently understand it - this is a template driven page that logged in members can add/edit entires to a particular weblog/section.

Is it designed to be a quicker method of making entires as you can do it via a form on the site? When authenticated memebers are logged in - do people display a link on the weblog/account part of the page to the form?

Why not just go into the the CP and make the entires/edits from there?

Or is this more for members who have posting access but you may not want them to access the admin CP?

I understand the entry forms gives you the ability to customise how the entry takes place but what are the benefits of doing it this way as opposed to the CP.

The code that is displayed on the SAEF (here) page - is that code that is entered into an existing template and then the members can just go to index.php/saef/ and then enter content? or is it more intergrated into the actual weblog than that?

I know the answers to all these questions aren’t as black as white as the questions I’m asking - as people can customise these forms as much as they like, but I’m just looking for a bit of background info on how people are using them on their site.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I use them when I don’t want a member group to be in the CP or use them for users that aren’t very net savvy. They are used to filling in forms but can be overwhelmed by the CP. I usually have an add or edit button on entries that only shows if a member is logged in.

Edit-Add: I usually have several different forms, one for each area a member can add/edit to.
