Which way to sort (and can it be done)?

Right now my blog has the most recent entry at the top, which is the way I like it.

When I select a month from my archives, the entries are presented in the same way, but I don’t like it that way. When look back at something I want to see the oldest first.

    So, two questions:
    1) Which way do YOU like to see archived entries sorted?
    2) Is it possible to sort the non-main page entries in reverse?

    Thanks

Are they using a different template, Erin? If so, try sort=“asc” or “desc” depending on which it is now (I get turned around easily, sorr =) ).

I personally prefer earliest first, but it would be easy to give the option to your users. Create a dropdown and pass a sort into segment_3, then call sort=”{segment_3}” and let the user choose.

    Hrm, I might do that myself…. 😉

    Nope, not a different template.

Ah, see I use a different template because I like the archives to be title only whereas my main page is the full entry.  To use a different sort then you may need to pass it as a segment if it’s using the same template.  You could, of course, use a different template and hardcode the sort.

OK, I will see which one of those methods is the quickest and do that. I think that creating a new template might be the quickest…then I just have to figure out how to hardcode the sort.

    Thanks

New template is easy (and done). Thanks for the tips.

Sure, Erin!  I personally think that’s the best way - it gives you the flexibility to change how the archives look; and I’ve always felt they should look different from the main page in many circumstances; though not all. =)
