Ok i’m very new to EE, i’ve just started butchering the default theme to get it ready for my theme but i was wondering…

Is it possible for me to simply code my site up then add the bits of expression engine in after? for example the blog and sidebar parts? if so is there a list of commands?

    thanks.

Yep! In fact if you already have a site, just pull the HTML code, and load it in an EE template. That’s what I do, once it’s loaded, then I start breaking everything out into components, such as headers, navigation, sidebar, footers, etc. After I have that broken down, then I start with the EE data pulls. Typically, I pull data for the header, navigation (if it’s based on sections or categories), and main content areas.  Take a look at the EE Docs at http://expressionengine.com/docs/ to get started.

Hi, lewis2.0. Welcome to the EE community.

Just to add to what allgood2 mentioned, you can make a backup copy of the original site template group so that you still have it as a reference.

I usually copy it as site_backup.

You can remove it when the project is finished. 😊

You may perhaps be surprised to learn that this is, in fact, the preferred method of development of many EE veterans.

if so is there a list of commands?thanks.

The docs. I particularly recommend the Quick Reference.

Hm, strange. Take a look at my attachment for the time being.

Edit: I am frustrated. The .pdf doesn’t fit cause it exceeds 150k, the .gif cause it exceeds 800x600 px. Stand by, I’ll put it up somewhere.
