I was just wondering about the installation of EE. I’ve used CMS systems that need to be installed in the main site root, and some in an off directory (domain.com/foldername/). I was wondering how EE needed to be installed, and if moving it off would effect the features (for instance having it in domain.com/blog/ would only allow me to use the blog feature). I would obviously want the homepage of my website to domain.com, not domain.com/expressionengine or the like. Can you guys let me know expression engine handles this? Thanks for the help!

Hi, stage5. I’ve installed EE in the root and in a subdirectory. If I’m going to be using EE to power an entire site, I prefer to install in the root.

If you already have an existing index.php file, what I do is rename the index.php file from EE to something like new.php. I develop the site using new.php, when it’s ready to go, I rename the original index.php to old_index.php and new.php to index.php. I also change the settings in EE to use index.php instead of new.php.

yes that helps explain part of it…I guess I just wanted to know if I was absolutely required to install it in the root directory for me to able to use all the features…or if putting it in a an off directory would only allow me to use the blog or some specific features…

No, you’d be able to have all the functionality, but you’d be adding another level of URI title.
