Hi, I am new to EE. I have a job that needs to be done for a real estate company. Thing is I am more of a front end developer than a back end. I am looking for a solution that can be customised for this job and was wondering if EE could be it, without too much core code manipulation?

That would depend on your project requirements, but listing items is a piece of cake in EE,
in fact most things are simple or medium hard to develop in EE, the hardest part is to get a good project specification from the client. 😊

I’m sure others will chip in here too, I just wanted to let you know this forum is a great resource!

My apologies, it is also a good idea to give you a idea of the project spec to see if EE is up to the task or not. Maybe it is, but it’s me that’s not, that’s not going to change over night though!! The requirements are that the site must have the basic functionality of a real estate site, e.g. search for properties by number of bedroom etc… Google maps integration, possibility of other agents to sign up to list their properties.

    Many thanks

sounds very doable, but will require EE knowledge.

you can use categories to list property by # of bedrooms etc,
and google maps can be integrated but that’s more of a html/javascript thing,
EE handles it just fine though.

What Andy says. Just don’t expect EE to do all that out of the box, it is not a realtor’s application. But certainly doable, yes.

You have gotten some excellent responses.  Also, consider if you will ultimately want to interface with MLS - that is something for which you would need to custom code a solution from scratch.  I know that can be an important part of choosing a site for hosting a real estate site, as well.

If you have more questions or would like some specific questions addressed, do post back.  You might also preview our Showcase to see the variety of sites that EE handles. One of the sites while not real estate specific is Green Home Guide - they have some location specific information so thought it would be a good one to look at.
