    Hi,

I’ve had a request to develop a site that can do the following, and I was wondering if it has ever been done using EE, and if not, then do you think it can be done?

    • The site will offer multiple choice tests to students preparing for exams
    • The tests will need to be sorted into categories (subjects)
    • The student must subscribe (pay for a month’s access for example) to a subject before being allowed to take the tests
    • Each test will need the option for questions to be asked randomly or sequentially
    • After each test the user will be able to review their score and look at the questions they have answered correctly or incorrectly
    • The score will need to be retained in their account so they can look back on their progress
    • Once the user’s subscription has expired the system needs to recognise this so that they can renew their subscription

I know it’s a big ask but I was hoping that someone might have successfully implemented a similar thing using EE, or made a module that does something like this.

I have searched the forums, and the only similar thing I could find was a link to a script called Igivetest which seems to have all the credentials, although I’m not sure if this can be integrated into EE, or indeed whether there is a better way to do it without the need for an external script.

I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks!

    Good morning, Sarah—

Possibly done before, but if so? Not publicized.  Do-able?  Absolutely, but - you’re going to want to build a custom module for this.  It’s an area where EE really shines for its expandability, but you’ll need the knowledge to do that.  If you don’t have it then the Pro Network may be your best course of action to proceed.

I do think that, if I were to proceed, I would try to locate someone to write a module.  In fact - if you wanted, I know a “survey” type module has been in somewhat high demand by the community (particularly by SurfTasmania) and others may be willing to help contribute to such a project if that were your interest.

Anyway - definitely possible - but not available yet. =)

Thanks for you reply Lisa. I thought it was asking a bit much to find it “ready-made”! I might try the pro network on this one.

Is this the kind of thing you are developing? If so I would be interested to hear more details about it.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah,

EE is great, don’t get me wrong (i use it for a ton of clients!) But it really sounds like what you want is an LMS, or Learning Management System. I had to look at these for a full-time gig a while back, and the best one i found that doesn’t cost bazillions of dollars is open-source Moodle. You can get it here.

Sorry, I’m not a professional so you can ignore my opinion, it can be erroneous.

But I think this item can be problematic if one stundent can subscribe to several subjects (at the same time).

That means the student can have access to, e.g., Member Group 1, MG_2, but not MG_3, etc.

I’m not sure EE can that now. One user can belong to one Member Group only.

That is the main difference between EE and LMS.

That can be handled via the Permission Module from solspace.com - once it’s back to being available.  It wouldn’t handle the back-end but the surveys are all front-end, so the stated limitation can be easily overcome.

Moodle sounds very concise. I will have to discuss it with the tutors involved and see what is going to suit them best. It really would be great to use EE for something like this as I do love it’s flexibility, but I think we might be trying to re-invent the wheel here as there’s so many features it would need to have.

Thank you all for your responses - I will give it some thought.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah
