I’m running the 30 day hosted trial of EE (v1.5.2), but am interested in installing the Pages Module (which I think requires v.1.6.

Can I update the EE installation on my hosted trial so I can try out the pages module?

dpachner, the hosted trial typically takes a while after a new release to be upgraded. I’ll check with Leslie to see if there is any sort of timeline for hosted trials to be updated, and if they are, that the Pages module will be included.

    Thanks, that’s great.

The reason I needed (I think) the pages module is I’m trying to set up a site that has a bunch of main navigation links to pages that could easily be static, and are using the same template.

Is there a way I can make a link connect to a template, and pass along the parameter so that the template being called displays the correct weblog entry?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

We’re checking on the hosted demo- but you can set things up like that now.  Basically?  What I normally do is set up a template group where all of my ‘static’ pages will be displayed.  I usually call it ‘info’ or something.  Then I use the index template of that group for my display- put a weblog tag on it with a limit of 1, show the title, body- whatever fields I’m using in my ‘static’ weblog.

Then- to link to each ‘individual static page’- you simply use the url_title.  So if I have an entry in the static weblog called ‘About’- and it has a url title of ‘about’- the url is mysite.com/index.php/info/about.  If I have one called ‘Contact Information’ with a url_title of ‘contact_information’, the url would be mysite.com/index.php/info/contact_information.

It’s pretty close to what the pages module does- but the module give you much greater flexibility when it comes to specifying the exact url to be used.  And when you switch to using the pages module?  It will be a snap to switch over if you’ve set things up like this.

(Here’s a wiki article on the old approach to static pages.)

The Pages module will be included in the hosted trial, but there is no date for that to happen.
