Hey Everyone,

I’m trying to set up a personal server on an external drive.  I’ve used Xampp before (only because I’m not good with server configs, adding PHP, MySQL, etc…)  I tried the Apache download, but you have to install all the individual packages yourself.  Xampp did it all for me, which was nice!  Well, for the second time now, XAMPP has stopped working for me.  Today I attempted to turn on the server and got nowhere.  MySql worked fine and I was able to start it up.  Don’t know why.  I uninstalled the package and re-installed with no success.  The server must have saved some sort of information on my computer which conflicts when I install the newer one…  Who knows.

Anyway, do you guys know of a good personal server that I can use (pref. free, since I’m only using it for testing?  😜)

Have you tried MAMP?

You don’t mention which OS you are on.

No, I haven’t tried MAMP.  Never heard of it.  I’ll look it up though!

I’m on MAC OS X/Win. XP Pro.

I’ve just looked it up, and it looks really great!  Hopefully I’ll be able to set it up so that I can let other’s see my dev. sites without me having to lug my machine around.  I’m not good with servers at all!
