Latest version EE. Trying to upload an image of 6M via File Manager. Get the error:

“Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.”

Checked and the directory is writable with correct permissions and owner. This only happens with larger files… smaller ones upload fine.

Any help appreciated..is kind of urgent.

Given it’s only with larger images, it could be a php memory limit issue and the error thrown by ee isn’t accurate/too generic.

Yeah, I’m thinking that too. This is different than the default set in File Manager (has a limit of 20Mb) isn’t it? Do you know what the limit is in File Manager by default if left blank? Is it the full 20 or do you have to stipulate that in the field?

Given it’s only with larger images, it could be a php memory limit issue and the error thrown by ee isn’t accurate/too generic.

    EL documents all of this:

    https://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/cp/content/files/file_upload_preferences.html

“NOTE: Servers usually also have built-in limits on the amount of data that can be uploaded via PHP at one time. The default value for this in PHP is 2 MB. If you have a need to upload very large files, then you should contact your Host or server admin and talk to them about any size limits they have in place.”

So you need to get into your php config and see is this a php file limit size issue, and/or a php memory limit issue.
