I am very new to ExpressionEngine.
I’m helping a school who had a website built by a company who no longer support ExpressionEngine (the person on staff who used it is no longer there)

It looks like the site was hacked into and all the userdata was overwritten. I have gone back in through phpmyadmin and got the accounts functioning again.

The problem is that content on each of the pages appears twice now. So that once you finish reading it you get a chance to read it again.

(See what I did there? I relax through comedy)

It seems like a crazy enough problem that there must be an easy fix.

    Thanks for your help.

    I found the problem.

The hackers messed with our member data. We now have just 5 members in the system, but they had filled it up with nearly 600,000 spam accounts.

The problem was that the exp_member_data had 2 entries for member “1” and after I removed one of those the problem cleared up.

    Questions:
Should I clear out all extra member_data?
Is there a problem with 29 entries for member “0”
How do I keep them from getting back in?

You can turn off member registration, and change the member profile trigger word under Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Membership Preferences

But yes - all those member accounts clog the database up. EE1 actually has some tools to help here that EE2 didn’t get: Admin ›  Utilities ›  Data Pruning ›  Membership Account Pruning
