I am trying to use Expression Engine (core) with a local server (i’ve tried MAMP and XAMPP), but I can’t seem to get the local server and EE working together. I’ve read a lot of tutorials on how to do this, but nothing seems to work. What do you recommend?

Going to need to be more detailed for us to help.  What isn’t working?

I get this error when I try to install ExpressionEngine using the localhost

    Not Found

The requested URL /install.php was not found on this server.

    Can you help?

Here’s my suggestion.  Delete all of the files that you uploaded to the server and re-download the files from the EE website (just incase it was a corrupt download).  Upload those files again.  It takes a few minutes, but in your FTP program make sure that all of your files actually transfer and that none queued and failed or are still in queue.

    Good luck to you.

I downloaded the free version of ExpressionEngine (from this website), unzipped the files, and then copied them to the folder (/Users/[username]/Documents/Websites/Expressionengine) which is the disk location for my local server on MAMP Pro. I did not use an FTP client. Am I doing something incorrect?

For install the URL should be something like that:
    http://localhost:8888/site/admin

    and not
    http://localhost:8888/site/install.php

I tried that and I got this error:
    Not Found

The requested URL /site/admin was not found on this server.

Also I am using MAMP Pro so that I can have several hosts running at the same time. There is one host called ‘localhost’ which it does not let you delete, but I am trying to use a host I created called ‘local.jm’. Hope that help you diagnose this issue. Anything else I can do?

I am still having issues getting ExpressionEngine to install using MAMP Pro. Are there any solutions based on the error I posted earlier?

    Thanks,
    Matt
