I am more than interested about this because have noticed that its not so famous within Add-on Developers.
So basicly, why not to use and what to use instead then?
Would be more than happy to hear why Forum Module isnt serving you?

I have run big and small forums well over 10 now in my career. Yes I have used EE Forum module and for a private type forum I think it works ok for that. It’s beyond me why a EE developer has yet to make the wheel better, meaning a much more robust forum for EE, better templating, more control, that sort of thing. It’s a lot of money just sitting on the table and no one has done anything about it. In an age where facebook no longer holds the shine it once did we could see a big return to forums, especially niche forums. That is my .02 cents, I have been doing this for 20 years now, back when the internet was called the world wide web LOL.
So if you are taking on a project and creating a robust forum module then I can give you a list of things you need to make it all viable for sale. If that is what you are looking for.
