Couple things. 1) not sure where the {__TextCaptchas} tag came from; and 2) it doesn’t look like you can put a captcha in a mailinglist tag, at least not according to the guide.

Mailing lists are opt-in, so whoever puts an address in the form will need to verify within 48 hours or the entry expires. So, a captcha really isn’t needed?

update, i just noticed this is for v.1, and my advice is for v2. sorry

    Hi tgperez,

I received your PM notice by email, but I couldn’t figure out how to actually go and look at it and answer it directly, so I guess it’s better to just post on your thread again to “bump” it if you need further assistance.

As I said above, I don’t think you can put a captcha in a mailinglist form. At least it isn’t referenced in the Guide that you can do so. But maybe somebody else has figured out a way to make it happen. And the {__TextCaptchas} tag question I had for you is still unanswered.

Anyways, as to getting emails, that is the purpose of the mailinglist form, to collect email addresses. Are you saying that you aren’t getting what you want, or there is something wrong with them? When someone puts an email address in the mailinglist form field, they’ll be sent an email that they have to click on a link to verify. This weeds out robots and the like. Which is why I assume that EllisLab might assume that a captcha field isn’t necessary.

Of course, you could always use a third party captcha solution. Snaptcha is awesome, or so I’ve read. I’m going to try it soon as a captcha replacement.

    Hi, thanks for your help.

TextCaptchas is a tag with standard text, is not a problem.

I understand what you say about maling list, I want activate it to avoid receiving so many requests of spam, but it is not a security problem.

I’ve been looking at “snaptcha” and I think that does not work with ExpressionEngine v 1.6.7, I can’t find previous versions.
In fact, I’m having problems to find compatible extensions. I also try to find an editor but it doesn’t work. I changed to a more modern hosting and jquery does not work, I can not activate it. I have installed ckeditor but it needs jquery to operate.
Thank you very much for your help I will continue researching.
