    Hey Guys,

I am sorry in advance if this violates any of the site rules.

Been a long time since I have posted something on these forums. I have been using CodeIgniter to build projects for about 4 years now and my latest project is a whole new social network built from scratch. We make use of CodeIgniter to help keep our website working great and well organized.

The site is called AAMPP and it’s a social network built around the needs of independent musicians and artists. We recently opened up public registrations, so feel free to signup if you like what you see.

Here are a few examples of the site:

    https://aampp.net/mglinski <- My profile
    https://aampp.net/deeraby <- South FL Artist
    https://aampp.net/tylernoel <- Atlanta, GA Artist

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated 😊 I will be finishing up the company blog sometime this weekend and I will be posting there semi-regularly on our architecture and how we used CodeIgniter to make my job of building the site easier.

    Thanks for reading!
    -Matt

looking good man.. ive registered myself in 😊 its great to hear about other people stories.. im currently working on a social network myself.. going for launch in few couple months.. need some rigorous testing beforehand.. by the way, if you dont mind, may i ask you something? ive been wondering about these current trend in registration.. without email validation, how do you make sure there’ll be no abuse? what if i create some script to randomly fill in your form with some random values and then loop for thousand of time to aumatically register and flood your server? how do you validate it? do you check for ip or something?

Trying to prevent abuse is one of the most complex issues regarding new companies and properties. Usually spammers are on the cutting edge of what is new and popular, so they can exploit it to their own ends. There are usually 2 forms of abuse in early properties: back-linking spam, and targeted messaging spam. We prevent these by adding rel=“nofollow” to all links made in posts and we help stop messaging abuse by requiring the other user to be following you before you can post directly to them. Privacy controls are also a must: private accounts, hidden accounts, and fine grained controls for empowering the user to both control what they see and report any abuse directly to management.

In regards to no email validation, that is something we will be implementing soon. Unfortunately emails are just as prone to abuse as everything else. Access to a generic service like email is not empirical evidence that a user is legitimate. You are going to get crap signups from spammers if you get covered by the press, there is no way around it. Some people are trying to get around it by having users link their personal accounts on facebook or twitter to help weed out the mass amount of spammers. If you don’t want spammers to signup, then you have to take drastic steps to moderate everything, usually to the detriment of your real users.

I think the only way to stop spam is to educate people better, a task that much greater minds then mine have failed at for centuries. So, at the end of the day, you are most likely going to spend an hour or so cleaning up your system, every day. Get used to it, because if it’s not you, its going to be someone on your pay-roll. Spend the time to build tools to help you fight spam. Take a month and study how spam impacts your site and build in secure tools to save you time during the cleanup and your future employes will forever sing your praises.

    Hi,

Your site looks great! Good job. 😊
Anyway, I’m curious about how long it took for AAMPP to get to this point? And are you doing this whole project on your own?

    Thanks and keep it up!

I really like the site. You did a great job, but I hope you will consider a responsive design in the future. Are you otherwise detecting small screen devices?

Thanks, it’s based on bootstrap framework. It is responsive. But I have to work more on that in the future. Thank you again.

Responsive Web Design - You may need to do more than a little work on your responsiveness.
