I’ve seen many links to the page with upgrading 2 and higher or to 2, but how do I upgrade to 1.7.3?

I figured out how to upgrade, but got stuck at 1.6.4

Error Number: 1060

Description: Duplicate column name 'last_author_id'

Query: ALTER TABLE `exp_templates` ADD `last_author_id` INT(10) UNSIGNED NOT NULL AFTER `edit_date`

All I got from then on at my site was a blank page.

Reading in the archives, I tried commenting out lines in update165, then I got other errors.

Finally edited the config to 1.6.5 as that worked for some people and all the updates ran fine, I optimized the tables, deleted the updates directory and update.php, but I still get only blank pages for my blog. No errors, just blank pages.

Now what?
