Organising content into channels

I promised I would read as many articles as I could before coming here but I am still finding it hard to figure out how to organise my websites content, while making it easy for my client to edit their pages.

The website I am using EE for is http://www.shawsett.com.au

I would like the client to be able to see what page they are editing, and be able to limit their changes to small chunks of text/titles etc.

So after reading a bunch of stuff, I made a channel called “home” , attached it to a field group also called “home” and added a bunch of fields for the homepage - “intro message, driver training title, driver training text, emergency services title, emergency services text, first aid services title etc etc…”

But I am sure this is not a logical way to do it. I wanted the client to be able to edit, say, a homepage section called “Home Services Panels” and inside there, list the 4 panels, and then inside that edit the title and body for each. But you cannot assign more than one fieldgroup per channel.

I think once I have figured out the best way to organise the homepage content I will be confident to move onto the others.

Have you attempted to organize the fields via the publish page layout?

No, I didn’t see this option, thankyou.

So I assume you can make custom publish pages for certain users with this? This is a good step for me.

Well, not certain users but certain user groups.
