I’m getting the following error when I try to upload an image to an entry:
A PHP Error was encountered
Severity: Notice
Message: Undefined variable: alt
Filename: file/field.php
Line Number: 2
It also results in a bunch of errors when I go to the homepage, but only when the image is attached to the entry.

Last time I had a problem like that, it was due to a bad file upload - try re-uploading your entire site - my guess is that one of the core files for uploading images got uploaded incompletely.
