First EE site, how to start with html and css

hey everyone, I had a friend that got me into expression engine and I am finally getting around to building my first EE site. I have my channels set up and I am looking at starting to actually code my site. I am in the process of learning html and css and I want to build the code from scratch and not modify a template.

My site is going to be set up to have a main page and then a few pages where specific content will be directed to. For example I am going to have some Cinema 4D tutorials, After Effects Tutorials and Photoshop tutorials. On the main page it will display the last tutorial I created but it will have pages like C4D, AE, and PS that you can click on and just get those tutorials of those programs.

Having said that, my background colors and things like that will all be the same for each page but I don’t really know where to start or even put my html or css files to even get content to start showing up on my site. I guess I am looking for a little guidance to where I can plug in some html and css and start seeing a navigation bar and such on my site.

I have seen a couple things online about putting css in a template group and also importing html, just wondering which is the better route as well. Thank you so much for your help! I am enjoying learning EE 😊 and can’t wait to get my site up and running! Thanks again!

    Hi reanimatedfallout,

    Welcome to ExpressionEngine!

One of the best places to look for guidance is Train:ee. They have a free tutorial on building out a complete site in ExpressionEngine. The only caveat is the tutorial is geared for ExpressionEngine 1, not EE 2. The only real difference is the references to “weblog” (EE 1) where EE 2 uses “channels” - they are synonymous.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Cheers,

Thanks for the link! I will for sure check these out since I am in the starting phases of putting together the html and css. I am not super fluent in html and css yet but I have some good resources on that end that can help me out. I really appreciate the help :D
