Can I create an online store without payment?

Would the Simple Commerce Module allow me to create a store without payment? Items would be added to a cart (just quantities, no prices), then the user completes an order form which sends an email to the supplier so he/she can fulfill the order. This is an example of exactly what I’m looking for:

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for posting to the Forums!

Based on your spec brief, I don’t think you would even need to use Simple Commerce to accomplish this.

Now, implementation would be totally up to you, but essentially building a list, and submitting that to a third-party wouldn’t require a commerce layer at all.

Just off the cuff, you could build your products into a channel, and have those entries feed into a SafeCracker form that would record the options chosen, the person that made the selection and their choices in another channel.

    Thoughts?

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for your reply. I have experience of SafeCracker, but not used in this way. Would the SafeCracker form be creating an ‘order’ entry using the method you suggest? Or would the data just be held for that particular session?

Would it be possible to track a user’s selections across multiple channels / products if they are not logged in? (there will be no membership function)

    Cheers,
    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Indeed, SafeCracker stores submissions in a Channel as an entry. It allows for non-members to post submissions if that’s what you need.

You could have a field where the user supplies their name if you’d like, to aid in tracking.

One benefit of using SafeCracker is that you can then output the resulting entries using the channel entries tag into any format you need.
