    Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to build a real estate rental website with a membership fee and I think I would like to do this with express engine I just had a few questions.

First I am wondering if this is something that expression can do?  I was looking into wordpress but a few developers I asked flat out said no because wordpress doesn’t have the functionality that I need.  I am used to working with joomla because it doesn’t require programming skills but their addons for real estate are not good at all.

Also do you think Expression Engine is really for beginners. I do not have money but I have time I know I can’t find a developer to build my website for 5k but I thought I can invest that in classes and build it my self in 3-4 months and hire freelancers if/when I get stuck.  Do you think a beginner can realistically build a good real estate website with expression engine or should I just save for a developer because it will be too complicated?

I was also wondering is there a Trial Version?

If there isn’t a trial version, can I buy the $99 license to test it out and then upgrade and just pay the difference for the commercial license?  Or would I have to pay full price for another license?

    Thank you!

I am just trying to figure out if expression engine will be the right choice for me or if I should just give up now and save up to hire a developer.

    Hi Trystan,

I’m glad to hear you’re interested in ExpressionEngine! Before we dive into some of the meat and potatoes, let me ask this: how comfortable are you in building webpages with simple .html files using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (without using a CMS like Joomla or WordPress and without using a theme to get you started)?

ExpressionEngine is extremely flexible and powerful, and it doesn’t require programming knowledge to get you started. However, you should be at least comfortable with the above. Let me recommend having a look at this getting started video to get a basic idea for how EE works. Do the concepts covered in that video make sense?
